Yiannis and Amalia Tselepos carry on this age-long tradition. In their search for the right location to create their vineyard, they chose the soft soil hills in the fringes of the historic Mt. Parnon and in 1989 they established Tselepos Winery.

logo-tseleposGreece is par exellence the country of sun and sea but also the realm of Dionysus, the God of Wine. It is the land where, during the antiquity, the cultivation of vines reached its heyday.

The Greek wines where renown throughtout the ancient world and fabled in the writings of Homer, Pausanias and Thoukidides and many other great writers and historians.

The first reference to the wine tradition of the Peloponnese originates in Homer’s Iliad. In this grand epic poem, as well as in Odyssey, Homer depicts striking images and offers valuable information about the wine culture. Every time the poet referred to the regions of the Peloponnese he would not forget to pay tribute to the vines’ richness by using two beautiful appellations: “Ampeloessa”, which means “full of vines” and “polystafylos” meaning “rich in grapes”.

Today, after so many centuries have gone by, Peloponnese is still a land wealthy in vines and grapes.

Yiannis and Amalia Tselepos carry on this age-long tradition. In their search for the right location to create their vineyard, they chose the soft soil hills in the fringes of the historic Mt. Parnon and in 1989 they established Tselepos Winery.

The excellent terrain and climatic contitions (the micro – climate), which has as a main characteristic the continental climate and poor soil with clay and gravel, were selected for their capacity to produce high quality wines. The estate’s vineyards spread over 35 hectars planted linearly with the right orientation and planting density, which ensures the maximum of sun exposure and facilitates the air circulation, so that their leaves breathe properly, and are refreshed by the wind, where humidity concentration is prevented as to avoid any diseases.

The winery’s first market label was the MANTINIA superior quality wine. It was first circulated in 1991, to be followed a few years afterwards by the other wines of the estate, which are based on noble grape varieties. The winery’s production has gradually increased to reach today the 500.000 bottles per year. This allows the export of about 40% of its production, mainly to, USA, Canada, Europe and Asia.

A visit to the estate can be best combined with excursions to the highland villages in the northern slopes of Mt. Parnon in Arcadia (Ano Doliana, Agios Petros, Kastri), a visit to the archeological sites of the region (Sanctuary of the Alea Athena in Tegea, byzantine metropolitan church of Tegea, ancient Mantinea), the churches and monasteries (Malevi Monastery, Varses Monastery) and museums (archeological, water-power, power, popular art).

CANAVA CHRISSOU TSELEPOS SANTORINI
A new expression of Santorini

Yiannis Tselepos, taking another challenge in Santorini, wants to introduce another PDO region, like he did in Mantinia , with his vineyards and wineries. The challenge of this project is because of the differentiation of the Santorini soil, vines and microclimate. And it can be achieved only because of the Chrissou family vineyards, which express the authentic characteristics of Santorini.

Yiannis Tselepos and the Chrissou family, with their vineyards of 12 hectares in Pyrgos and Emporio, are the ones behind this wine. This mutual project wants to develop those vineyards to produce higher quality grapes.

The revival, with traditional methods, these 50 – 100 years old vines started with the 2014 harvest. The very small yield, of 1300 kg per hectare, will be raised year by year to 4000 kg per hectare in order to have sustainable cultivation. Our target is to produce only super premium wines, which reflects the special characteristics of Santorini. Our goal is to show to the wine market that Santorini wines are a special category, which produces wines of the higher value.

Blanc de Gris 2016

Dry White Wine
PGI Arcadia

No one could ever doubt that winemaker Yiannis Tselepos knows the Moschofilero grape “inside-out”. His Blanc de Gris is testament to that, offering a true expression of the grape in a wine with a constantly growing fan club. A beautiful nose full of summery floral aromas and discrete spicy hints, evolves into a crisp, vibrant and refreshing palate. This is a great aperitif, which will also pair beautifully with pasta, salads and seafood hors d’ oeuvres.

Driopi Reserve 2014

Dry Red Wine
PDO Nemea

One of the finest Nemea reds in the market, showcasing the depth and potential of the exquisite Agiorgitiko grape. Carefully made from selected grapes from the estate’s top vineyards, its generous nose is characterized by aromas of ripe red fruits and sweet spices, while the palate is delightfully silky, yet firm and long. This is a wine that’s meant to be paired with food, such as hard cheese, pork spareribs and juicy beef burgers.
