The vineyards are certified organic and are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment and the consumer.

kokotos-logoThe Kokotos estate dates back to the 1970s when George Kokotos and his family decided to settle in Stamata, abandoning city life to build their home and create a small vineyard in the hills north of Athens.

In 1980, George and Anne Kokotos created a vineyard of seven hectares, planting international varieties; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. Their aim was to produce wine of the highest quality.

The vineyards are certified organic and are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment and the consumer. Today  Assyrtiko and Gewürztraminer are also cultivated in the vineyards and wines are produced from other varieties as well, with a total of ten different labels.

At the heart of the vineyard is the well-equipped, boutique winery of the Kokotos Estate. The wines are aged in French and American oak barrels under ideal conditions in our underground cellar.

Wine Tasting
It is always a pleasure to introduce guests to the art of wine tasting and to share our expertise with them. Wine tastings, guided tours as well as meals, served at our monastic tables overlooking the vineyards, can be arranged by appointment with the winery.

Receptions
The Kokotos Estate is available for all kinds of open-air and indoor social and professional events, such as weddings, christenings, children’s parties, corporate events etc. The success of your event is important to us and we would be delighted to discuss every detail to ensure that you and your guests enjoy a unique experience.

The Olive Grove
The estate includes an organic olive grove consisting of approximately 400 olive trees of the Koroneiki and Manaki varieties. The semi-mountainous terroir, organic methods of cultivation and manual harvesting (thus avoiding damage to the fruit) combine to produce extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality. In addition to the choice of varieties, which are considered to be the best in Greece, the cold extraction of the olive oil at a local olive press ensures very low acidity with minimal time from harvest to extraction.

The Vegetable Garden
Our organic vegetable garden covers an area of two acres. Here we grow all types of seasonal vegetables, which means that our guests, and particularly children, have something new to discover and sample at any given time of the year.

The Poultry Farm
Our chickens are free to roam in a generous enclosure surrounding their designer home and express their gratitude by offering us their tasty eggs. In addition to their luxurious habitat, our layers feed on the produce of the neighbouring vegetable garden, supplemented with selected dry food, which lead to the tastiest of eggs. Our guests are welcome to sample freshly-cooked eggs together with our organic vegetable produce.

The Beehives
Our 20 beehives are set in a secluded area of approximately two acres within the estate. Their residents collect nectar from our flower gardens, the surrounding hillsides which are covered in a wide variety of wild flowers, including thyme as well as in the Stamata forest. The honey harvest is a feast for our guests, especially for our younger friends who are welcome to share the fun of the extraction process. The honey is poured from the honeycombs into the centrifuge and from there straight into the waiting pots, which are then sealed without any further processing.

Partridge in the Vines 2015

Dry White Wine
PGI Attiki

Far away from its native land, Santorini, the Assyrtiko grape seems determined to conquer the capital too. Indeed, only a few kilometers from Athens, it expresses itself perfectly, offering us a delightful white wine that oozes aromas of citrus fruits and minerality from the stony hills it grows on, combined with crisp acidity and excellent length. An ideal companion for shellfish and fried fish or seafood.

Kokotos Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Dry Red Wine
PGI Attiki

Kokotos Estate introduced the Cabernet Sauvignon grape to the Attiki region back in the 1970s and it’s been a successful ride ever since. All these decades later, this is yet another fine and typical specimen; an organic, unfiltered red wine that’s been aged in oak for 28 months, combining a generous fruity and spicy nose with a firm yet elegant palate. Ideal for a veritable red meat feast all year round.
