Thrapsathiri is a white-skinned grape variety grown on the Aegean islands and mainly associated with the vineyards of Crete. It tends to give wines that are rich and full-bodied with relatively high alcohol levels and low acidity.

Typical Thrapsathiri wines have a fruity character with light aromas and flavours ranging from citrus fruits and stone fruits to tropical fruits (melon), complemented with herbal notes. It usually undergoes some oak treatment that adds aromatic complexity to the wines. It is blended with other local or international grape varieties; varietal Thrapsathiri wines are also available though.

Due to Thrapsathiri’s structure, pairing it with food could be tricky; nevertheless, it matches nicely with less acidic dishes with white meat and low fat fish.
