Debina is a white-skinned grape variety grown mainly in the Zitsa area of Ioannina (Epirus region). It is said that the well-known philhellene Lord Byron loved the wines of Zitsa from the very first moment he tasted them, during his visit at the “Ai Lia” monastery in Zitsa. Debina gives varietal, fresh, light-bodied wines with high acidity and a light aromatic profile and flavors that remind green apple and pear. The variety is well-known for its distinctively delicate sparkling dry or off-dry wines. Their light but refreshing character makes Debina wines a perfect match for salads, cold starters, light lemony dishes with fish or white meat, light white sauces, and oysters.
